The 2009 Falcons posted four straight wins in regulation to open the season before winning a pair of 3-2 games in overtime. They then posted 12 consecutive wins with an aggregate score of 77-5; eight were by shutout, including the win over Widener in the MAC Commonwealth semifinal. A win over Leb Val gave Messiah the conference title and the top seed in the NCAA tournament. A win over Eastern followed by a second win over Leb Val in eight days moved the Falcons into the semifinals, where they beat Ursinus for the second time in 2009 by a 4-3 score. In the championship, Messiah fell for the first time that year with a 1-0 loss to Salisbury. Julie Barton was named National Player of the Year. She, along with Kourtney Ehly, Ashley Mowery, and Katie Love earned All-American honors.
