NCAA Champions

The 1994 Red Dragons opened the season with a five-game winning streak that saw them outscore their opponents 18-2. They then exploded with 33 consecutive goals over a nine-game streak of shutouts, including a 13-save performance from Amie Jones in a 1-0 win over Lock Haven. That streak of 676:18 still ranks as one of the top-five shutout streaks of all-time in Division III. Albany broke the shutout streak but the Red Dragons won 5-1 and then put together a pair of 1-0 wins, including one over Mary Washington, giving Cortland 14 shutouts in a 17-0 season. A 1-0 loss at Trenton broke the shutout and scoring streak in the final game of the regular season. In the NYSCWAA tournament, Cortland won three games by shutout to claim the title. In the NCAA tournament as the #2 seed, the Red Dragons defeated Gettysburg and St. Lawrence to advance to the semis. There Cortland needed strokes to advance to the final against Trenton State, who brought a 19-0 record into the game. The Red Dragons handed the Lions their first loss of the season, avenging their earlier loss, to win the title. Behind All-Americans Carol Merchant, Denise Taber, Dani Innerst and Tracy Riley, Cortland posted a .31 GAA that still remains in the top-ten all-time in the NCAA era.
