NCAA Champions

The 1993 Red Dragons leapt out of the gates with four consecutive shutouts, and over the first 14 games, outscored their opponents 53-4. Ten of those wins were by shutout. A 1-0 double overtime loss to Mary Washington broke the streak, and after a win over East Stroudsburg, Cortland suffered another blemish with a tie against Trenton State to close out the regular season. The Red Dragons responded with a seven-game streak. A shutout against RPI opened the NYSCWAA tournament, and a pair of wins secured the title and sent Cortland to NCAAs as the top seed. Two shutouts moved the Red Dragons into the semifinals, where they beat Trinity and advanced to face Mary Washington in the final. Cortland turned the tables on the Eagles, beating MWC 1-0 to win the championship. Carol Merchant, Denise Taber and Gina Carlo earned All-American honors.
