NCAA Champions

The 2001 Red Dragons opened the season with three straight shutouts before a 6-1 win over Hartwick broke the streak. Cortland started another streak, posting five consecutive clean sheets and 20 straight goals. A 3-1 win over Springfield stopped the run, and then Cortland had its first and only losing streak of the season, going 0-2 in the next two games. The Red Dragons responded with five straight wins to close out the regular season and enter the NCAA tournament as the top seed. Wins over Plymouth State and Rowan at home moved Cortland into the semifinals where a win over Skidmore sent Cortland into the final against Messiah. A 1-0 shutout of the Falcons earned the Red Dragons the national championship. Julie Gentner, Rebecca Gillette, and Erin Ryder earned All-American honors.
