The 1981 Huskies opened up with a pair of wins, but a loss to Trenton and a tie with Lock Haven, who went on to win the Division II national championship, put Bloom at 2-2. The Huskies responded with nine consecutive wins before a 1-0 loss to Millersville stopped the run. A 1-0 win over Messiah was followed by a 2-0 defeat of Millersville, avenging the earlier loss. A second loss to D2 Lock Haven was followed by an upset by Scranton and a tie with Marywood to close the regular season. In the EAIAW tournament, Bloom swept the competition with wins over Messiah, Gettysburg and Salisbury to enter the AIAW tournament as the #2 seed. There, wins over Calvin and Brockport moved the Huskies into the final, where they stopped Lynchburg’s shutout run to win their first national title.
