The 2011 River Hawks lost the season opener in overtime to eventual NCAA champion West Chester, but ran together 11 straight wins, outscoring opponents 64-12 in that stretch. A 2-2 run that ended with a loss to Merrimack put UML at 13-3, and the River Hawks closed the regular season with two wins, including a shutout of AIC. Behind All-Americans Rachel McCarthy, Kayla Littig, Annie Hansbury and Sarah Wilcox, UML won the NE-10 tournament, avenging their loss to Merrimack in the final. They beat AIC in the first round of NCAAs and advanced to the NCAA semifinals were they beat Merrimack in the rubber match, advancing to the finals. They returned to the championship game to face West Chester, their opponent from their season opener.
