NCAA Champions

The 1997 Huskies opened up the season with a loss, but a five game win-streak seemed to right the ship. A rare two-game losing streak on the road to Houghton and Lock Haven dropped the BU record to 5-3. From there though, behind All-Americans Beth Canner, Amber Hess, Jess Kircher and Kelly Platt, Bloomsburg won 15 consecutive games to capture their second consecutive NCAA title. The Huskies defeated Kutztown in the PSAC semifinals and then Lock Haven in the title game. The opponent in the NCAA final was Kutztown, marking the first time since 1981 that the two teams in the NCAA Division II championship game were not Lock Haven and Bloomsburg.
