The 2001 Bentley Falcons were the first Division II team in the NCAA era to win 22 games in a season. They started off with a five-game shutout streak, outscoring opponents 12-0 that included a 4-0 win over East Stroudsburg. A 3-1 win over St. Michael’s saw the defense surrender their first goal, but the win streak extended to 14 games before a 1-0 loss to Assumption stopped that run. A double-OT win over SCSU started a new streak that saw the Falcons win two games in the NE-10 tournament by shutout. They turned the tables on Assumption with a 1-0 win and shutout St. Michael’s in the final. In the NCAA semifinal, the Falcons shut out the Purple Knights again, and then beat East Stroudsburg for the second time to win the title. Kirstyn Bates, Allyson Bunce, Alicia Cabrera, Liz Novis and Lauren Galenski all earned All-American honors.
