NCAA Runners-Up

The 2006 Demon Deacons started the season with three consecutive shutouts; the winning streak went to nine with six clean sheets before a 3-2 loss to Maryland. Undaunted, Wake ran off an eight-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 45-6 with four more shutouts. The Demon Deacons won the ACC tournament without allowing a goal, so Wake put together a 19-1 record entering the NCAA tournament, earning the top seed after posting eight wins over NCAA-bound teams. Two wins at home allowed Wake to remain in Winston Salem for the final weekend, where they defeated Duke in double overtime, their 13th consecutive win, to advance to the final. The streak was broken at home in the final of NCAAs with a loss to the Terps. Behind All-Americans Lauren Crandall, Michelle Kasold, Jamie Whitten and Christine Suggs, Wake Forest led the nation in margin of victory.
