NCAA Champions

The 2002 Demon Deacons started 1-2, but that one win was over Michigan, who would be seeded #4 in NCAAs. They then won the next 13 games, including six by shutout and four over teams bound for the national tournament. Into ACCs as the top seed, Wake won a pair of games and entered NCAAs at 16-2 and as the #2 seed. Going into nationals, they had allowed 15 goals, led by All-Americans Kelly Doton, Kelly Dostal and Heather Aughinbaugh. Wake Forest didn’t allow another goal the remainder of the year, becoming only the third team in Division I history to win the title and not give up a goal behind GK Katie Ridd. The Demon Deacons outscored their opponents 15-0 in the tournament, tying a record for scoring margin.
