The 1995 Tar Heels opened with a shutout and never looked back. After a pair of wins, UNC embarked on a six-game shutout streak. A 4-1 victory over American stopped that run, but the wins continued as the Heels won nine more to enter the ACC tournament undefeated. Wins over Duke and Maryland—for the third time in overtime—sent UNC into NCAAs as the top seed. A pair of shutouts moved UNC into the final, where they faced Maryland for a fourth time that year. In the title game, UNC tied the record for goals in a final with a 5-1 victory as the Heels posted their first undefeated season in school history. Their 24 wins rank sixth all-time in NCAA history. They allowed a miniscule 15 goals over the season in 24 games behind all-American Jana Withrow. Tiki Barber, Joy Driscoll, Kim Schroll and Nancy Pelligreen all earned All-American honors as well.
