NCAA Champions

The 2018 Tar Heels opened with a pair of wins, and then posted seven shutouts in their next nine wins to move to 11-0 overall, outscoring opponents 43-2 in that stretch. UNC added six more wins to close out the regular season undefeated at 17-0, winning 10 games against teams that made the tournament that year. Carolina won the ACC tournament with an aggregate scoreline of 12-3 and moved into the NCAA tournament as the top seed at 19-0. A pair of wins at home sent UNC to the final weekend, where they defeated Wake for the third time that season and then beat Maryland in the final in their only matchup of the season. The debut of Erin Matson in the collegiate season was a huge success, as she was the first UNC freshman to earn first-team All-American honors in over a decade. When paired with Honda honoree and fellow USA teammate Ashley Hoffman, the UNC duo helped Chapel Hill host the trophy again as the Heels went through 2018 unscathed, the third undefeated season in school history.
