The 2007 Tar Heels opened with a five-game winning streak, posting an aggregate 19-7 scoreline. In the final game of that run, UNC started a shutout streak that lasted over the next ten games and stretched to 724:51, marking only the second time a team had held opponents scoreless for over 700 consecutive minutes. William & Mary scored to break the streak, but UNC won that game and added four more shutouts, including the opening game of the ACC tournament. An overtime win over Wake moved the Heels into NCAAs as the top seed with an undefeated record. UNC then posted three shutouts in the national tournament win finish off a season in which their 24-0 record tied the school record for wins in a season, which also ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history. The Heels also set then-school records for goals scored (102) and shutouts (16). UNC was led by three USA Olympians in Rachel Dawson, Jesse Gey, and Katelyn Falgowski as well as Laree Beans. Dawson earned the Honda Award this season, one in which the Tar Heels defeated 13 tournament-bound teams in the regular season and led the nation in scoring and margin of victory.
