The 2009 Terrapins won their first two games by shutout and never looked back, winning their next 16 games to enter the ACC tournament undefeated. A pair of 3-2 wins in ACCs earned the top seed in the NCAA tournament after posting a 22-0 heading into the tournament. Posting nine wins against NCAA-bound teams, Maryland scored at least three goals in every game except two—Boston University in the second game of the season and North Carolina in the championship game. Led by Honda honoree Katie O’Donnell and fellow All-Americans Alexis Pappas, Nicole Muracco, Alicia Grater, and Emma Thomas, Maryland captured the ACC regular season and tournament titles. The Terps took a 37-game winning streak into the final game and led the nation in margin of victory.
