The 2005 Terrapins opened the season with a 10-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 33-8 in that run. A strokeoff loss to Wake Forest stopped the run, and Maryland ran off four more wins before ODU split the season series with the Terps, beating Maryland 4-1. The Terrapins closed the season with three more victories, and then beat Duke in the semifinals of the ACC tournament before exacting revenge on Wake with a victory in the final. The top seed in the tournament, the Terps advanced to the final weekend outscoring the opposition 7-0 in the first two rounds. They then won the rubber match against ODU in the semifinals before beating Duke 1-0 in the final. Paula Infante was named the Honda Award honoree at the conclusion of the season, and she along with Lauren Powley, Emily Beach, Jackie Ciconte, and Kathryn Masson earned All-American honors.
