The 2016 Blue Hens opened with a pair of wins before an overtime loss at ODU; they won two more before a second loss on the road put Delaware at 4-2. In response, the Blue Hens rattled off 13 consecutive wins to end the regular season at 17-2. A pair of wins in the CAA tournament moved them to 19-2, which included four wins against NCAA-bound teams. Delaware entered the NCAA tournament unseeded, but beat Louisville 1-0 in the first round before winning three consecutive 3-2 games to claim the title. The Blue Hens set the school record with 23 wins, including a stretch of 19 consecutive to end the season, and scored 100 goals. Greta Nauck was named the Honda Award winner and earned All-American honors along with Esmee Peete.
